Upgrade Intel motherboard for Ivy Bridge CPU.

I have a Intel DH67CL motherboard and used to have a i5-2500k Sandy Bridge CPU in it. I sold off the 2500k and bought a new i7-3770k Ivy Bridge CPU. Then I found out that the motherboard needs a BIOS update in order to use the Ivy Bridge CPU and that neither me nor my friends have a Sandy Bridge processor in order to perform the update. Does anyone know how to get around this problem? Will Intel perform the BIOS update? I'm willing to pay a small fee to get the update. Thanks.

Well you could order a low-end Celeron or pentium processor and then upgrade the bios. Of course is there some kind of guarantee it will work even?

Or you could just upgrade the motherboard now. Maybe an ASROCK H77 will be fine.

Doh! Did you sell the CPU locally or online? If local maybe you could borrow it back for bit ;)? You might try some local brick and mortar computer store. I'm sure they'd be able to help you, although it might not be free but you never know.

Have you tried powering the board up with the new processor?. You can usually power up the board with an unknown/unsupported processor and do the BIOS update anyway. You do not break anything that way and it might just work...:p

Easy answer is to take it to a local computer repair place and ask if the have a 2nd generation on hand that they can stick in and update the Bios with. Here is a site that can help you find a local store http://inteltechpros.com/

You're going to need a SB processor to do the update. Make sure you read the specs page at Intel carefully if you decide to buy a cheap Celeron or Pentium based SB. I have a P67 board from MSI that wouldn't post with a G530 due to an incompatible BIOS. I ended up buying an i3 for it and that got me past the POST and into Windows.

Edit:Intel won't do the update for you but is there any way you can contact the company you bought the board from? A lot of times they can do it for you. You might have to pay a small fee plus shipping but it might be worth looking into.
