Here are the specs to my computer:
3GHZ P4
7800GT CO oc'd to 490/1220
1.5GB PC3200 RAM
450 watt forton psu
A non sli intel mobo

At the end of this summer I will have about $1500 to spend on a rig, hopefully dual core with SLI.
By the end of summer of 2008 I will have more like $3000 to spend on a really nice computer.
Upgrade this year or in 2 years, nothing in between.

I'd get an SLI mobo, PSU and two 7900GTs now, sell the 7800GT CO, and save the rest of the $$$ 'till summer '08.

Of course, my first instinct in PC upgrades usually turns out to be pretty dumb...

Why do you need to upgrade at all? Unless you're trying to pull 60fps in Quake 4 on a 30" display, I can't think of anything you'd need more power for. Wait for '08.

worst advice ever. such a waste of money.

better advice, keep your current rig and get 2gb of ram and see if you can overclock the computer 3.4ghz-ish. that will last you for some time.

with your current system, i'd hold off putting further money into your box this year.

is there an application you're running that is "annoyingly" slow to you with your current rig?

Thanks for the advice, I'm keeping my current rig until summer 2008, adding 2GB of ram and not doing any upgrades after that until 2008.
