Upgrade HP HDX 16T video (9600M GT)

Hello,

Just got an HP HDX 16T laptop. It has 9600M GT but doesn't seem fast enough for 3D games. Any way to upgrade this? Thanks.

a. not really
b. if it has a mxm card, you could but it would be expensive and not worth it
c. even if you were willing to spend the $ to do it, that laptop was built with specific thermal characteristics of what it already has.

If you want better gaming performacne then return that laptop and buy one better suited for your needs.

Get a Gateway FX with the 9800M GTS. That'll handle your gaming needs much better for around $1300.

Funny, I just got done playing some TF2 on my new laptop (see sig) and was going to say how great the 9600M GT is 🙂 But then again Source games will run on almost anything.

Yeah, I got a fully loaded HP 16T, and assumed the 9600M GT would be fast enough for med quality and at least at some 14xx resolution or more.... ahhh.. but it seems 1024 is about as high as I can go on a game like Lost Planet.

Now I just have to figure out how long I'm going to keep it.

HP should've some option higher than a 9600M.

Laptops really aren't meant for gaming. I mean, there are "gaming" laptops out there, but they'll generally cost twice as much for the same performance of a desktop, they aren't as upgradeable or customizable, and they're often a generation behind desktop components. Also, you're generally forced to get a very large (15.4" minimum, usually 17") laptop in order to get the better graphics card options. Those things run too hot for anything "ultra portable."

I just picked up a 14.1" ASUS NV80n laptop with a P8600 and 9650M GT, and I'm very impressed with it. There's no way I'm going to play Crysis at a decent resolution with decent FPS, but it's great for CS:S or COD4.
