I currently have a 5850 in my system and some how I managed have a eyefinity set up...so now I'm gaming at 5760x1080 in some games and the 5850 isn't cutting it. Been racking my brain on what to upgrade too...I been going from getting another 5850 (or even a 5870 for mixed matched x-fire), a single 6970 or 6950 or the extreme (for me) duel 6950s.

right now this 5870 is on sale and tempting...but will it be enough...

also all this talk about unlocking the 6950 to 6970 has me thinking on those aswell

maybe one of these or 2 heh

6970 is the only thing that will give you a noticeable upgrade from the HD5850, besides crossfiring.

look for a deal on a 5850, you should be able to xfire it for 160-170 AR these days. 6950 xfire will set you back probably more like 450+ after selling the 5850, probably not a cost-effective upgrade for you. by the time games are out that 5850 xfire can't handle well enough but 6950 still is able to handle you'll be looking at 7 or 8 series amd cards instead for similar money.

edit: ditto for 5870/50 frankenfire. 5850 xfire is very nearly as good anyway, you save $75, and when it's time to upgrade with 5850 xfire you'd be upgrading a 5870/50 xfire anyway.

hmm well the only reason was thinking frankenfire because if xfire is not supported I'd have a better card to rely on.
