Currently I'm running on a 3000+, a gig of RAM and a 6600GT. I REALLY need an upgrade. I don't have a job yet, so I was wondering if spending $400 to upgrade my current system would be enough to hold me over for 3-4 months. I was thinking of spending it like this:

Athlon 64 4000+ -$59
Adding another gig of CORSAIR ValueSelect - $59
EVGA GeForce 8800GTS -$294

I realize socket 939 is outdated, but I just need it to be able to play current games until I get a job.

OK, I'll be the first to sound like your dad...

Instead of spending money you don't have for things you don't need, specifically for time that you probably can't borrow meant for an extremely short-term solution, maybe you should instead reconsider your priorities...

Otherwise, yeah, those choices should be good for another couple of months. You won't get squat for resale on the proc or memory if that's important to you, but the card should be good for another three to six months beyond your next upgrade. Assuming you get that job, of course...
