Upgrade help. What you think?

Having had a motherboard failure (see this thread http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2060781), I have decided to upgrade. I have 3 options I am thinking of. They are all at newegg.com. They are linked below. I plan on reusing my case, power supply, CD/DVD drives, and hard drives. And I will be using windows xp pro oem as the operating system.

1. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboB...t=Combo.352997
Low priced, low end????

2. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboB...t=Combo.352997
Intel based but has a Celeron CPU with 2 gig ram

3. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...t=Combo.356939
and a http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115056
C2D CPU with 4 gig ram (I am leaning toward this one.)

I do not do any heavy gaming. Mostly this will be a internet computer and a video capture system (transfer from DV camcorder to cd/dvd). I do a little video editing but not much. My old system did fine on everything I did. I have no desire to overclock. If the motherboard had not crashed I would not even consider a upgrade.

I have $250 to put toward a upgrade. I prefer to purchase in the USA.

Thanks for the help

Bill

As stated in the first paragraph, "I plan on reusing my case, power supply, CD/DVD drives, and hard drives. And I will be using windows xp pro oem as the operating system."

The case is a Ever Case E4252B-81

The power supply is a FSP AX450-PN

The hard drives are Western Digital WD1600YS SATA drives (2)

I have no Microcenter or Fry's around me. (wish I did though) I purchase most all my computer related item from Newegg. They have been great to me.

I prefer Intel, but that is not set in stone.

Thanks

Bill

I am running windows xp pro 32 bit. Isn't it limited to 4gig memory? If so wouldn't 2 slots with 2 gig each work?

Thanks

Bill

2x2GB ddr2(and apparently all ram) is rather expensive at this time ..xp 32bit will see upwards to 3.5 but by going with a 2x1GB start you can add more(even if it is just another 2x1GB pr) later..just got thru setting up a 775 dell inspiron 530..it has 4x1GB in all 4 slots and running fine on xp home 32bit ..gl 🙂
