Hi everyone. I will be upgrading my system tomorrow from a:

P3-800 on Asus p3B-F mobo
444 meg ram
ATI Radeon 8500

To a P4-2.2 on a Asus P4T-E, 256x2 = 512 meg rdrram ( Corsair pc800) and reusing the ATI 8500 vid-card. After the hardware swap, plan on formating and re-installing Win-XP.

Is there anything i should be aware of? Any hints, tips? This will be my first hardware upgrade that i have done all by myself. Need some reasuarance.

Thanks all..................CK

You may need a new power supply. Other than that, the only problem you should have is that empty feeling after having spent way too much money... Intel, thbbbt.;)

Seriously, you're fine.

You need to load the drivers in the correct order on Intel chipsets. Intel has the instructions on their boxed board support pages. not sure about the others like ASUS. since I'm so nice I will link it for you. these instructions hold true regardless of the board and should be followed on all 815's,845, and 850's. I do it on all 8xx series boards just to be safe.

Thanks for reply. How will i know if i need a new PS. The one that came with my SuperMicro case is a ATX 300 or 350 watt PS. Yeah, i know i mighta spent more than need be, but ive never had any problems with Intel and my friend works for them. Gotta help him keep his job, (hehe). So, i stick with things that have run well for me. That bein Asus, and Intel.

Thanks...........CK

ckat - I agree on the Intel thing. All I use is Intel cpu's and boxed boards. It is the most stable x86 PC platform on the planet hands down. Since RDRAm and DDR run neck and neck in price now the only that you paid more for was the proc. Since it will work out of the box and you don't have a VIA chipset you will make up the money you spent in the lack of downtime and frustration. both of those things will be minimal if at all. good job, good luck and my P4 1.4 and I bow down to you.

Yeah, i figure a few extra bucks spent now with less headaches is the way i needed to take. With that setup, i dont think ill need to upgrade again for a couple/few years, other than a vid card here and there. With all my other cpu, mopo, mem upgrades, ive never had a single problem with intel/asus combo. But, my brother, the puter wiz was here to do the upgrading for me. He moved so this upgrade ill be doing by myself with no one to hold my hand. Im alittle nervous but i think i can handle it. Wish me luck.
