Does anyone know what the best cpu I can put on this board is? It's listed on Gateways site as a (Bryant) motherboard R1 (Part #2509462)

* Intel® Pentium® III processor in a 370-pin Plastic Pin Grid Array (PPGA) socket with 66/100-MHz host bus speed
* Intel Celeron? processor in a 370-pin PPGA socket with 66/100-MHz host bus speed

I happen to have a P3 133fsb 800EB mhz
But since its a 133 it doesn't sound like it will work.

Thanks. It's my aunts first computer and I thought I'd give it another small upgrade. But I didn't want to take the time until I knew.

I already upgraded the memory to 512mb. And put in an average PCI video card with 128mb.

Do you guys think she will see an improvement over the Celeron 433.

She'll see somewhat of an improvement. Almost 200 Mhz more, which in this instance is ~50%, plus more cache. It's still gonna be slow, it just won't be as slow.😉

edit: You're gonna either have to do some research on your own, or give us the numbers off the top of both cpu's, before you'll know for sure whether that 800 Mhz PIII will work in that motherboard at all. If it's a PPGA2, it will fry either the processor and/or the motherboard, if you put it into a PPGA motherboard.
