Hello. I'm just looking for some advices if I should upgrade or not my PC with a new video card. Looking for a GTX770 over my currently GTX660.
I play games as BF4 and WoW and I'm not sure if the upgrade worth the money.

The motherboard is an Asus P8Z77-V. Proc is i5 3570k (not overclocked), RAM - 16GB DDR3 (1600). Also, not sure how my PSU will work too, it's kinda old - Corsair on 620W.

If you can find a good deal on a used card, it might be worth it. However, there is the 960 coming out next month, which should offer better performance than the 770 for less money.

The question is, do you find performance lacking? I don't think WoW requires much, for example. If not, I'd say wait at least a month or two to see what the new AMD and Nvidia cards are like. Worst case it would drive prices down.

770 is yesteryear card, arch wise, feature wise, VRAM wise and literally.

With 770 you can expect something like +50% performance compared to 660.
60fps instead of 40fps.

I say pass, and do not bother with less than 4GB VRAM

You think it will be cheaper than the 770 ?

Well, I doubt it will make any difference for WoW, but regarding BF4 I'm pretty sure I'll see an improvement.
Not sure how AMD works now, but some years ago I had one and I was really disappointed - said then that I'll always go for Nvidia :)

What resolution do you play at?

What is your budget?

Are you looking to buy new or are you open to used? Are you in the US? If not, is there a used market where you live?

Your PSU should be just fine with any single GPU on the market so no worries there.

If you could sell the 660 for a good price, the upgrade will be quite worth it.If your keeping your 660 the 770 is pretty meh paying a full used price.

I play at 1920 x 1080 resolution. Budget is around 400 Euros (that's around 500$) and I'm not really a fan of second hand stuff (especially electronics). Not from US tho, Europe here.

Kepler cards are looking worse and worse with each newer game. wait a few weeks and see what the 960 has to offer. It should be around 770 speed with low power consumption and a better card going forward.

Probably not worth it to upgrade just one generation unless you get a killer deal. Looking at Newegg, 770s are $300 after rebate... you can get a 970 for $30-50 more which comes with 4GB VRAM, HDMI 2.0, and many more features along with better perf/W.

If you overclock your 3570K, you'll get the most out of your upgrade no matter what you choose. A 770 will give you 1.5x-2x average frame rate over the 660... but a 970 will give you 2x-3x. Depending on your monitor (1080p vs 1600p vs 4K) or refresh rate (60Hz vs 144Hz), that could make a huge difference.

Or just wait for the GTX 960 or AMD 380X. Honestly, even a bargain bin R9 290 would be a better choice than a 770, I think, despite its high power draw.

It is safe to say the 770 could be considered EOL and really just not worth it,unless you get a killer deal used. You get 290s for cheaper then the 770 new .

Ok, so I guess the wise thing to do, it's wait for the 970 and see how that works out.

Thanks a lot for the answers!

The 770 is a horrible buy right now, especially if you already have a 660. And if the 960 has 770 performance and 2GB RAM it was also be a terrible buy. Much better to go after an R9 290, like the Asus one selling for $240 after rebate right now at newegg. An aftermarket R9 290 is a little behind the $330+ GTX 970 at 1080p, but way way stronger than a 770; I mean it's a whole different tier of GPU from the 770.

get a R9 290 now. or wait till Feb when the R9 380x launches as it could cause price changes in the Nvidia camp.

The R9 290 is a massive boost. will more than double the GTX 660 in latest games.

R9 290 is every bit a GTX 970 equivalent and hammers the GTX 770. :D

Does anyone know how well the asus cards work in cf? After seeing the piss poor performance of the 770 I no longer want to use mine. Price seems right after rebate. Also after numerous attempts my cpu does not seem to like overclocking so my only issue would be a bottleneck?
