Around January or February I put this new build together.
I have an IP35-e, e6750, 2gb ddr800, and a Powercolor X1950 pro.
I game at like 1024X768, and 1280X1024, nothing larger. I pretty much only play Counter-Strike 1.6 and Unreal Tournament 3. I have a 19" CRT that I don't want to replace, and LCD's hurt my eyes anyway. I was wondering if theres any point upgrading to an 8800gts or HD4850, especially running such a low resolution ? I have about $200 to play around with, and nothing more than that.

I'd wait till the 4850's drop to around $150, or pick one up now if you can find it that cheap, since you game at such a low resolution there's no rush to upgrade, though the 4850 would be a good snag for $150 incase you ever are in a situation where you can take the resolution up a notch or two.

if you enjoy gaming at 10x7 and really don't want a larger resolution, a 4850 might be a good option if you want higher levels of AA (especially in those older games).

i know other's may disagree, but 10x7 is really the highest res imo that 8xMSAA matters -- any higher and it's just a waste of bandwidth.

but please for the love of god don't use tent filters ...

anyway, i'd say sticking with the x1950 for those games at those resolutions is fine if you don't want to move up to 8xMSAA. there's really no other point. i wouldn't do it myself, but people tend to disagree with me on AA sometimes ...

really, i'd say you'd be better serviced by an upgrade to a higher resolution CRT monitor if LCD is really out of the question for you ... by the way, if you haven't looked in a few years, LCD technology is much better today than it used to be. plus you could also go for a 1080p DLP TV as a monitor if you want great color space, contrast, higher resolution and a large picture ... mmmm ...

anyway ... gl.

I know LCD technology has improved vastly. My sister and father are using 19" Samsung LCD's and I can't look at them for more than 15 minutes without getting a headache. I would upgrade to a larger CRT, but I'm really not sure where to find one anymore, nobody seems to carry a variety anymore. I'm sure anyone that has read this thread is laughing at me because of the whole CRT thing, I mean my dads computer is an Athlon XP 2200 with a Geforce 4 ti4200 and he has a better monitor than I do, but I'd rather avoid getting constant headaches.
