I just upgraded from an ATI x1900xt that ran great at 700/800 to an evga 8800gtx. (havent popped it in yet, i'm staring at it...dizzy...) Would you have upgraded? I've been gaming on a 32" lcd tv @ 1366x768 but am getting a 24"lcd soon so i'll be running the 19x12's, and think the extra power will be well worth it. It's backed up by an x2 3800 @ 2.6 w/2GB ddr @ 207-ish, raid, yadda yadda. Just wondering if that makes sense to anyone else. I've been dying to switch to the wide format desktop lcd but know the 1900 just wouldnt push it, and figured a singe 8800 was a better choice than crossfire 1900s, with the shoddy support/performance. Thoughts? Is this my sub-conscious bragging about my 8800? I think so; I'm only human, for now at least.

I just picked up a new 24" Dell widescreen and I should be getting my BFG 8800GTX today. I'll be replacing a X1900XTX.

The 8800GTX is a nice upgrade IMO. I'm going to need it to run my games at 1920x1200.

I am thinking about doing the same thing. Would be interested to hear how you like the change.

I would do it yes, but only if the price of the 8800 GTX was a lot less.

Then again, for my little 1600x1200 display, X1900 XTs can handle that okayish, whereas 1920x1200 is another story.

i won't not immediately anyway.Right now the x1900 xt is playin all my games except oblivion with all turned up.
And the price of a 8800 is too high.I'll hang on to it till next year around march-april.

Not until the R600 is released, and/or the refresh(80nm) of the 8800s comes out.

If I had lots of spare money to spend on computer stuff I definitely would, but right now no I wouldn't. Good buy though, enjoy it.

Came very close to buying an 8800 (all of those mouth-watering benchmarks almost sucked me in), but then I decided to wait until R600.

I say stick with your X1900XT and wait for a DX10 refresh. I don't think an 8800 GTX will be able to handle brand new DX10 games at 1900 x 1200. If it does, it will be a miracle and I will eat crow.

Eh, keep it. Sell it at a nice used price when R600 comes out. That 8800 gtx will allow you to throw on all eye candy on every game out right now at 19x12.

Do you have any other what your talking about?

These DX10 GPUs will RUN faster in DX10 games while looking better than the last generation cards. DX10 makes things much more efficent and since G80 is unified will show more performance gains in DX10 games.

Wait for the R600? I would grab the G80 now because you can enjoy the best gameplay available.

Quoting someone from B3d:
It wasn`t like that with the G80, it seems that ppl expect ATi to make a card that would improve even starship Enterprise`s systems AND wipe your ass at the same time. You know they kindof face the same constraints as nV, no?As such, I don`t really fathom a huge difference between the two architectures.

Waiting could be a good idea, but really you are missing out 2 months of playing games and older games at high res 16xAA 16xAF, add in HDR etc. Without having to worry about DX10 performance. I believe the R600 will be close in performance with the G80, and even though it could be 5% faster in certain situations, its still money well spent because it not that big of a deal. Unless its over 30% in every situation or so, then its a problem but thats unlikely to happen.

I would wait, I htink the X1900XT will handle 1920x1200 just fine and when Dx10 games actually come out you can enjoy some sweet dx10 eyecandy, hopefully with a pricedrop or a whole refresh of cards.

I'm getting a 19in widescreen LCD for Christmas so I need an upgrade; I think I'm getting the 8800GTS. I can't really afford to wait for the R600 or the refresh, mostly since I don't think my X800GT will game well (at all) on 1440x900, and I don't really want to buy an ATI card on an SLI motherboard. I figure I could probably get another GTS later on the cheap.

If anyone has any other suggestions please LMK.

QFT. I'll wait until the drivers are better. Right now they're not so good from what I hear.
