I am currently running a Athlon XP with a A7N8X motherboard which uses the nForce2 chipset.
I was wondering if I could upgrade to a motherboard, such as MSI or EPox that uses the nForce3 Ultra chipset so that I can get into a Athlon64 Socket 939?
Was thinking that sticking with the nVidia chipset, that my IDE drive wouldn't need reformated as the IDE controller might be the same or very similar?

Comments?

Some people have reported problems when migrating from nForce2 to nForce3, while others didn't have a single one.

Back up your data and hope for the best :)
But I'd really recommend that you do a fresh install as that can avoid a lot of problems.

EDIT: And one more thing... don't forget to update all your drivers before upgrading, to make sure they support the new chipset.

Since most of the drivers are tied to the chipset, I would recommend that you run the NVidia driver software uninstall from the Add/Remove Programs applet in control panel. Then move the drive and reinstall the latest NVidia drivers. Best therefor to copy the latest drivers on to your hard drive prior to the changeout so the driver is sitting and waiting there for you.
