Well, I am still here :p

I decided to go the 4790k way. It was A LOT cheaper. The upgrade to the 4790k cost me ~350€ while going for the 5820k would cost me around 800€.

I can say, the difference is quite extreme. Dragon Age Inquisition now plays perfectly smooth. Whereas with the 950 @ 4.2 wasnt smooth at all.

btw, the 4790k is now running happily @ 4.9 with 1.26V :D

That's an insane OC on air for the 4790K, but I don't know how you got such a massive boost in performance in DAI. Going from FX8150 to 5960X only nets a 6 FPS gain, and 920 @ 4.2Ghz is faster than a stock 8150.

The game is heavily GPU limited.

After building a 2500k which I only used for month I then went back to my I7-930@4200 for another 18 months.
Then I built a 3770k which I liked much more then x58 and have using since.
The 4790k is the first cpu in a long time that really does not require to be oc for good performance.

Heres a screenie!

And, its not on air, its on a custom wc, with en EK block and the 2 7970s :p

And no, its not placebo. I was constantly checking my FPS with the console command and although it was high, above 90-100FPS, it kept dipping to 40-50 for 1-2 seconds and that annoyed the hell out of me. BUT I was using mantle and thats perhaps the reason. With DX11 its perfectly smooth. I will try again now with mantle to see if that was the culprit.

Still, I feel its a lot faster + it was a nice holiday gift to my self after 6 years with the same CPU :p

Would like to see the numbers from your retest. Why don't you try with fraps and graphing its will be easier for you to see those dips and you won't have to stare at the counter in the corner just play a 5 min session then check out the numbers in a graph.

Is the Cpu also water cooled or just the GPU's?
