Okay, so the ATI HD4670 has done a great job for the past year in my Dell Vostro 220.
System specs:
Core 2 Duo E7300 2.66 Ghz
3 gb DDR2 800
WD 500 gb HD
DVD-RW
Coolermaster 460W PSU coming on Monday to replace factory 300W Dell
20" Dell digital monitor

Play some CODMW2, FAr Cry 2, LFD, LFD2, Crysis (just got, part of the reason for the upgrade), Bioshock.

Would like to stay around $100 to $130 cost. Keeping in mind that the Vostro 220 is a mini case and may not accomodate large cards, I think I have narrowed it down to:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102859 HD 5750 $130 shipped
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102824 HD4850 $100 shipped
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150369 HD4770 $117 shipped
And maybe on the cheap side:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814121352 9800GT $92 AR shipped, or the other possible Nvidia option,
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814141097 GTS250 $117 shipped
Any opinions? I have historically been an Nvidia guy, but have been pretty impressed with the performance of my MSI HD4670 for like $65 AR, so am looking for the best bang for the buck that will fit in my case and run on my PSU. The new one is supposed to have 18a on each of the 2 12v rails. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817171046
Thanks in advance for any replies.

I agree, that seller's GTS 250 is a nice deal. Pretty much 5750 performance for $105.

Thanks for the replies. That GTS 250 sounds like a good deal, but in reviewing it compared to the 5750, it would appear that the 5750 might be a better option for my case and PSU. Also think that maybe the 5750 is a little shorter than a GTS 250. How long is that PNY 1GB card?

It should be 9 inches but you can message the guy and ask for exact measurements.

It's hard to compare a used GTS 250 to a new 5750. With a difference of just $25 I'd rather go with the newer card. Plus the 5750 has DX 11 capability.

After further research, (my kids PCGamer magazine, and other graphics card websites), I have narrowed it down to the ATI Radeon 4770 or the newer ATI Radeon 5750. I like both of their low power demands, and both should be a nice upgrade, performance wise to the 4670.

So which one? The 4770 seems to have better reviews on newegg, although the 5750 is a bigger performance increase. A number of reviewers on Newegg reported driver and compatability issues with the 5750. My Vostro has a Dell motherboard with Intel G45 Express chipset. I believe it will handle the 4770 with no problems, since it took the 4670 with ease. I am less confident with the 5750. Again, appreciate any input, especially any first hand experience with these or similar components.
Thanks.

I'm sorry not sure why you are even considering the 4770 as competition with the 5750.
5750 is comparable with 4850 in terms of speed plus the 4770 you linked is 512 MB.
The 5750 will kill it. In terms of power I'm sure you will be fine since you have a 460W supply coming. 5750 is pretty low power under a 4850, and 460 is enough to power a 4850 (ATI lists 450 W for a single card).
Just get the 5750 since a lot of the problems in the reviews are likely due to early drivers.

Thanks, Blanketyblank. I just hope I won't be uttering variations of your nickname when I try to install the 5750. I was leaning to the 5750, but was almost swayed by the PCGamer magazine which rated the 4770 slightly ahead of the 4850. And I also figured the drivers for the 4770 would be more mature. I still remember some old nightmares with ATI cards back in the day. I guess I should just go with the more future resistant option, the 5750. After all, the $15 difference in price isn't really significant, even to a cheapskate like me! Thanks for your input. The Sapphire cards are okay, quality wise, aren't they?

Quality wise you shouldn't see any difference between manufacturers right now except for XFX. They bin their cards to sell Extreme and Black editions so you'll have a weaker OCer if you buy one of their standard cards. On the other hand they do offer the best warranty right now.
Sapphire did have a problem with a Bios in some of their 5770 cards having only 720sp, but I haven't heard of any problems in their 5750 line.

Thanks for the input, ordered the Sapphire 5750. New PSU arrived today, hopefully the video card will be here by Friday. Will be curious to see how noticeable the difference will be.
