Question Upgrade from GTX970

In 2015 I bought the GTX970 (Asus Strix), as it was the best VFM card back then. Following year, 2016, I upgraded my rest of the system, from i7 950 to 6700k, with a plan to upgrade the GPU to a 1070 later. But that didn't ever take. I have not played a single FPS games in last 2.5 years. But anyway, now i am slowly coming back to gaming, so I would like to change my GPU. I know that a GTX970 is considered not that good in late 2019, espeically with that 3.5 GB VRAM fiasco.

So my question herein is- Which card is considered the most VFM in this age? I don't live in the US. So the prices of GPUs here are much higher, and I have to consider the cards accordingly.

Just laying out some prices of different cards for reference-

  1. RTX 1660- INR 18,000 / USD 250
  2. RTX 1660 Ti- INR 24,00/ USD 320
  3. RTX 2660- INR 27,500/ USD 382

Now that 2660 is absolutely at the edge of my budget, i.e. to say I really would not like to spend that much, unless its a significantly better card than the #1 and #2. There is a used market here, where users sell out their old GPUs for cheap (mostly those which were used for mining) and prices are more or less attractive there. Like a GTX 1070 can be found at INR 16-17k there (222 USD), a 1070 Ti for around 21-22k (290-300 USD), a 1080 for around 25k (350 USD) etc. Is there any point in considering these older gen. GPUs over the new gen. ones?

Some important points to note-

  1. I would be playing the latest titles (Far Cry, Tomb Raider etc.) at 60 frames with maxing out graphics. Resolution is 1920x1200. Maybe I will upgrade to a 1440p after couple of years.
  2. The new GPU I will be using for at least 3 years.
  3. I have no idea about RTX features, but I did watch some Youtube videos on it, and it seems that feature suck a lot of frames outta games, so I don't care for it.
  4. The power efficiency of the model should be really good, I would really like it to be on the lower side compared to what I have now, i.e. the GTX970.

Overall the upgrade has to be a significant one for me to consider it, but as I see that anything is a decent upgrade from a GTX970 now.

Looking for your suggestions.

How much is an RX 5700 in your country? They go for around $350 here in USA, but of course YMMV.

The RX 5700 is $350 dollars or 350 euros, basically equivalent to the RTX 2060, yet its about 6-7% faster than the 2060. If its the same in your country, meaning same or very similar price, then you should get that over the 2060.

Anyways the only meaningful upgrade over your GTX 970 would be a RTX 2060 or RX 5700. The GTX 1660ti is basically a bit faster GTX 1070, sometimes it even beats the 1070ti, but sometimes its barely on par with the 1070, its a hit and miss card and only about 40% faster than your GTX 970.

Something like the RTX 2060 would be 50% faster, the RX 5700 would be about 56% faster than your gtx970. So again, the only worthwhile upgrade is a 2060 or 5700, with the 5700 in the USA and western countries in general being faster than the 2060 for the same price.

Never.... EVER go for an RTX 2060 over an RX 5700, unless you get the 2060 for a bargain.

So what did you buy?.I am here with the same issue and waiting to upgrade from GTX 970 ,I do more of Architecture Rendering stuff.
