Upgrade from GTX570 to GTX580. Will I see a difference?

I am picking up my step up from an EVGA GTX 570 to a EVGA GTX 580. If I play Civ V and Battlefield 2, do you think I will even notice a difference?

Of course you will but is it worth it? No. If you're upgrading from a GTX570 to a GTX580 the performance gain is not big enough to justify the upgrade. Wait for the GTX600 series to come out if you want a proper upgrade. Either that or SLi your GTX570 with another GTX570 which will definitely give a significant improvement and have even better performance compared with the GTX590.

smart answer.

exactly I couldn't say it better.

You wont see a difference.

I mean its there, it might give you 8fps more but you wont tell the difference.

going from a 8800GT to it then I saw HUGE difference.. you wont see any my buddy trust me, save the money. no need. gl

If you are running 2560*1600 with any amt of eye candy on, you should see a difference with those titles. Lower res than that though, and likely not. The 570 runs @ >60fps on both those titles below that res.

Battlefield 2 is ancient and you should be at all the FPS you need anyway...

If you mean Bad Company 2, then be more specific.

^lol classic

Op whats your native resolution?

Get another 570. One 580 isn't quiete enough for 3d but two 570s is. That should be enough till late this year of after xmas for the new releases from Amd and nvidia again.

did no one read the OP? He's using EVGA's step up program, there will be no selling of the 570 or SLI possibility...

as far as it being a good move? well I don't play Civ V so I can't really comment on that, however like any RTS I'd assume it would be largely CPU bound, so at best expect to be able to have a little bit more eye candy

As far as BF2, that's an ancient game and I doubt there would be much difference at all between the two, I'm sure either card could run the game completely maxed out with all the extra eye candy possible and not even break a sweat

Now if you're talking about BF:BC2 then its possible it will be a noticeable difference, but it depends on your monitor situation.

If you have a standard monitor in the 1080p 60Hz range then no, you really won't benefit from it for a game like BC2, but if you run a higher resolution (ie 1440p/1600p or a 1080p 120Hz), then yes, you will be able to benefit from it

Civ 5 is not RTS, it's turn based. It's a CPU killer though. My Q6600 really struggled with the game on huge maps in the late game.

580 is just 15% faster than 570 most often than not it won't be enough to notice a difference. You can have the same speed-up by over-clocking your current card.

u would get happier performance by savnig for a second 570 and SLIing..

because SLI works for windowed mode now as well, so pretty much scaling at least 2 cards rock.

Update: I noticed little difference in BF:BC2 (it was Bad company 2, sorry about that). and CIV flows smoother now. I also played Shogun 2 Total war, and that was smoother than it has been in the past (although for reasons I can't grasp, the game will not let me turn on AA, I had to do it through the NVIDIA control panel).

As far as resolution, I currently play at 1600x1050, but I am looking for a 24" 1920x1200 3d monitor (if they even make one, which I am thinking no one does) to upgrade to, so I am betting I will get more out of the 580 once I have that.

Anyone know if 24" 3D monitors even exist yet? 🙂

I was gonna pick up the 570 but decided to plump an extra £100 and get the 580 as it is going to last me a while @ 1920x1080. Its a BEAST of a card and I hope you enjoy yours.

Good luck with the monitor search; 120Hz LCD monitors are the best thing ever for gaming 🙂

all of the 120hz monitors I've seeb are 1080P, not 19x12 (sadly).

Also its got lag input,,,

"I think its 5ms ,,,,,, no good..
that kills the card right there"

Even 2ms would blow, there would be input lag. laggy mouse ,, blurry graphics,,,

But I know its not 2 its 5ms worse,, forget about playing FPS games lol gonna have a laggy time.
