I was wondering what performance increase I could expect by upgrading my motherboard from a ECS K7S5A to a good VIA KT333 board an if it would be worth the ?130-140 it would cost me

Here's what else I'm using:
Athlon XP 1800@1533 MHz
512 MB Samsung DDR333 RAM (only runs at 266 due to the motherboard)
MSI GeForce 4 TI 4200 64 MB
IBM Deskstar 40GB, 7200 rpm
Windows XP Professional

I would say that unless you're one of those people that like to see higher benchmark numbers that it is not worth the price. Your probably not going to notice a difference real world. If on the other hand you're having problems with your K7S5A and need a new board anyway, well that's of course up to you.

By the way the K7S5A is the same board that I have been using for the last year with no major problems.

This is just my opinion, someone else might say I don't know what I'm talking about, and they might be right.:D

You probably wouldn't notice much of a difference. Wait a few more months for the next big thing (KT400, dual channel ddr).

I've gone from a SiS735 to a VIA KT266a to a VIA KT333 (still have them actually). There was always an increase everytime, however it was only noticable when benchmarking. I would say that if you're in the mood to upgrade the motherboard, do it for more reasons other than just a minor performance increase from the chipset alone (ie. BIOS features, overclocking options, compatibility reasons, etc. etc.). Otherwise, if everything is stable with your existing setup, I personally don't think it's worth it.
