Well, I am actually. Kinda. But I want more.

Right now I am running a the title card, IE the one in my sig, and I am thinking of upgrading. I would love a 275, but right now I am thinking about waiting for the 300 series to come out. And if I was to buy right now, I would most likely be out of the step up program for either BFG of EVGA.

However I am also looking Ati. That is because I have a X-Fire Board, and really like what I am seeing out of the 4890. And the fact that if I wanted to I COULD run a pair of them in crossfire makes me drool. Would probally go XFX for the Ati card.

Also reguardless of which way I go, I can always sell off my current card.

So, the question is. Do I wait? Or do I buy?

What way would you go?

What's your budget? Do you overclock? What are you looking to gain most from the upgrade (i.e. more AA, higher frames, a new card just to tweak/play with, etc.)?

If you're gaming at 1680 it may not be worth it. I'd rather upgrade the monitor 1st. Of all the purchases I've made for my comp, my monitor is the one I'm happiest with, even though I paid CAD$700 for it back in 2007.

What do you mean by more? Specifically, which games do you want better performance in?

Agree. @ 1680x1050 you should wait.

@ 1920x1200..........sell your card.......get a 4890........find out that even though everybody tells you they're plenty for 1920x1200 they're really right on the edge.......wait a month till they're cheaper or somebody ditches one on For Sale/Trade add the other card and feel happy for a little while that your using your Crossfire motherboard. Later on hear about the new cards. Get tired of dealing with Crossfire and waiting for profiles for the latest games. Sell both cards on For Sale/Trade and buy single card. 6 months later go Crossfire again. wash rinse repeat

Or just don't do any of that and spend that money on hookers and blow instead

What games are you seeing a lack in FPS in that another single card will resolve?

@ OC Guy, vj8usa. I play alot fo L4D. ALOT. And making sure I dont dip under 60fps while in the middle of some god awful huge zombie rush is important. I play it with 8xAA and 16xAF. And the new survival mode plays hell on the card when there are two tank that are on fire, and 20+ zombies on the screen.
I'm on my 3rd time through FO3. And more is always better there too. Sins of A Solar Empire can get heavy when viewing resource intensive battles. A little bit of Crysis, but not much, as to me it is just a very nice FPS, and the game play doesnt do much for me.

And I plan on buying boarderlands, SC2, and D3 just to name the first 3 that come to mind. But I know buy for games that are not out yet is kinda stupid.

if the fps dips too low go down to 4x instead of 8xAA. If you must use 8xAA then the 4890 would certainly be an upgrade. It would probably be pretty close to a gtx 285 at 8x in fact, but if I were you I'd waid for the next gen cards to come out. Ati is supposed to release in aug/sept, with nvidia a few months later. Wait for those and you should be able to get much more performance/$$.

get 4890 in Crossfire

to some people it doesn't mean much but it does to you

You won't wake up in the middle of the night anymore screaming: "No! I just dropped down to 54FPS!"

nightmares

Honestly for L4D you don't need more than you already have. Wait until the next big jump unless you feel like spending bucketloads of cash on a minor-at-best performance increase.

Its a source game...I dont care how much AA/AF you throw at it, it isnt going to look much better than 4xAA.

OP if you're obsessed with 8XAA, then the AMD cards will work out much better for you.

Seeing as you're complaining so much about a capable card, you'll probably want a 4890 or even two of them in xfire. They are $184 at Ewiz right now.

I know it might seem crazy because I know I can turn down the aa. However, I am looking to put the lid on this computer and leave ir be. I know that its precieved that the 4890 would be overkill... good that's what I am looking for.

The xfx 4890 seems to be calling my name. However...gdi. I wanna see some information on those 300 series from nvidia before I make a choice. I am just trying to make sure I make a smart purchase. And not buy outside of the stepup for the nvidia guy.

What should I be looking at.... the enjoyment I have gotten out of my nvidia product? Or the pure insanity of crossfire 4890's? When I tried 4850s in xfire, it was a pain in the 6 oclock

Alright, call me a whore, but after the deal I got on my 260, I decided to get....

The 275GTX.

This is only because, I had such a pain in the ass with the crossfire thing when I built my machine. I have been nothing but pleased with my 270 and the preformance increase should be enough to make me happy. Plus I got 155 for the 260... and AMIR my 275 only cost 199. So, really. I think that was 45 dollars well spent!

Oh yeah. Oh well I can step up to it later if the mood arrives I guess.

PS. You got that extra 120 clams laying around?
