Upgrade from an ATI 8500LE

Just bought far cry and im really getting into it now, but sometimes it just runs to slow, and textures diasapear. i have the settings at medium and res is at 1024x768

my system is nothing special
xp2000+
512ram
radeon 8500le

so im looking for something cheap but will still give me a step up from my 8500

what about the msi fx5200 i can get that for about $109

the 5200 is a downgrade

the only card in that price range is a 9600, which is not worth the money and is sorta a side grade. save the money up and get a 9800 pro, a 5900XT is about 170, and it would be a big upgrade from your 8500.

I'd try to find a used 9700 if you're serious about farcry. Anything less won't help a whole lot.

I agree. unless you find a good deal on eBay, you can't get much better than your videocard.
if you do, it won't necessarily be worth it.
I'd go the extra and get a 9800 Pro personally.. it's the only card that would actually be a good, viable upgrade for your current specs.
