I was gonna order a fx-55 for a good price (125). I was wondering if I would notice a big differnce in bf2 or css. Right now I have a x1900xt.

you can check out these CPU charts and compare your CPU to the fx-55. depending on whether you OC the fx-55, what resolution you play at and if your system is bottlenecked by anything else (too little RAM), you should see a pretty noticeable jump in performance, probably in the 20-30% range.

Well my gigabyte is utter ****** when it comes to overclocking. So overclocking is not an option.

for $125, it's probably worth it. if you sell your 3200+ chip for ~$40, it makes it even a better deal. the only other alternative in this price range is a dual core CPU x2 3800+, but that would only help multitasking - you'd see virtually no change in single threaded games.

Well in a year or so the fx-55 wont be too good, since dx10 will be coming out and a conroe seems like the option for right now. I might just save my money.

The only reason I would be upgrading is for gaming. And I was play bf2142 and I got around 15fps on the ship.

LOL those smithfields get totally slapped on that chart. :Q

I never liked Smithfield bacon either and I bet the (o/c) smithfield CPU could cook some!

i haven't tried out the beta - was never in early enough to get a key - but if you are running your 3200 w/ a x1900xt, 2GB of ram and only getting 15fps i would say 2142 is worse off than i imagined, much worse off.

my personal experience was a opteron 144 (1.8GHz) w/ bf2 and 1800xt = 50-60fps, with the opteron 144 @ 2.5GHz and x1800xt still 50-70fps, now x2 3800 @ 2.0 - 2.3GHz and x1800xt = 50-70fps. 1280x1024

how do you currently do in bf2?

i think you should have more than enough cpu power for 1280x1024 with what you have now gpu wise...i would wait for the 19th when the game actually comes out to see if they cleaned up some code and made it more efficient. if it doesn't i would 80% of their userbase is screwed...

Well you'll need Vista to run DX 10 which requires a major upgrade to existing systems to run at baselevel(1GB of ram and 256MB of video just to run the OS)

Ya, and I get around 60fps in 2142 on "ground". But in the air on the titan tis around 15-20. I might just wait, since I still need to fix my watercooling pump. Heh but as I know of, my mb is ****** when it comes to overclocking.

man, 2142 is more of a resource hog than i imagined. how much of the game is in the air? wonder when they are going to make a demo available to the general public so we can all see what it takes hardware wise.
