Upgrade from AMD XP 1800+ to Sempron 2800+ good idea?

Is going from a AMd XP 1800+ to Sempron 2800+ much of an upgrade, especially for games? The fact that its being compared to a Celeron scares me, although I admit that I know VERY little about what makes a chip good or not, completely new to computers.

the axp 1800+ is a palomino or tbred core at 1.533GHz
the sempron 2800+ is a tbred core at 2.0GHz
other than the clock speed, they are identical. the sempron will be a bit less than a third faster.

If you got a good board and memory, then I recommend you overclock your 1800+.

Otherwise, getting XP mobile is a good option too.

depending on your mb, the sempron at stock speeds will be significantly faster than the old pal 1800

should be much better for gaming for one thing but the barton core mobiles and regular chips are pretty good value too if your mb/cs can handle them

overclocking the sempron would also be a help, again, depending on the mb

I changed my daughters 2100 t'bred to a 2500 sempron and they are pretty much similar in a non overclocking setup

you should check the mb manufacturer's site for the max cpu you can use and check that your bios is up to date for it, the semprons default to 166fsb

Get sempron 3100 with a Chaintech Nf350 MB man. CPU is like 100 dollar and Mother board is like $75. it will be 2x or more faster than ur 1800xp. By the way there is a big difference between an sempron 3100 and 2800 :)
