Alright, my parents computer has an Athlon64 X2 BE-2400 2.3GHz processor right now. The motherboard they have will take the new Regor cpu's.

AMD Athlon II X2 240 Regor 2.8GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM3 65W Dual-Core Processor - Retail

For $60 and free shipping, how much of an upgrade will the new Athlon II be for them?

It would be a decent upgrade, although depending on how they use the machine they may or may not notice a difference. What are their computing habits?

It would be an upgrade, but not a big one. Regor brings architectural improvements, bigger caches and higher clocks, but unless if you plan to overclock that CPU, the improvements may depend of the type of application used, some may surprise you, some may give you a deception.

i upgraded from a 5050e (2.6ghz) to a x2 250. And you'd think you wouldnt' notice the difference, but the 250 is actually noticeably faster when you are saying playing back a video it starts a bit faster, and things unzip faster etc. but i think for most people they wont notice too much.

A 2.3ghz X2 really is fast enough for most non-multimedia uses. Even then, it should still handle HD video/netflix/hulu/etc. just fine. I doubt they will notice a difference. Have you considered giving it a mild overclock?

Assuming they're like the average American parents, their e-mails will open 0.0% faster, their web browsing will be 0.0% faster, and their digital picture browsing will be 0.0% faster, for a net gain of, you guessed it, +0.0%.

honestly i fyou want to buy them something that makes a difference, and if they are anything like my parents and barely use any hard drive space... buty a 60gb ssd.
