Upgrade from a core i5?

So here is my current setup (since I'm home from vacation!):

i5 2500 @ 3.3GHz (not OCed)
Radeon 7950
8GB RAM

That's about the big stuff. I like this motherboard as it's been very stable, and that's what I am looking for in any type of upgrade. I also have a bunch of DDR3 RAM sitting around, and also what's in my PC... not sure if that will be re-usable if I go up to Haswell or not, but let me know 🙂

Thanks for any help!

Wait... WTF? It's a 2500?! You said it was a dual-core..

not only that it's a sandy bridge

anyway, just upgrade the MC box with a good cleaning and, if that's not enough, go with a pentium g21x0 (ivy bridge, dual core) or an SSD.

i suppose we should ask what's in the MC box

Then I guess I'm in good shape 🙂

I have an SSD lying around actually.. it's nothing special but I figure the MC will benefit from the rebuild at some point 🙂 I was hesitating to bother with it right now if I was going to upgrade my PC which now it seems.. I'm not !

I agree with the others, there is no reasonable $300 upgrade from that system.
