I recently damaged my 9800 Pro and before attempting to fix it myself would like to know what a good replacement would be, just in case it goes way wrong(currently works at 640x480 8bit colour, but won't go any higher or go into any 3D mode for playing games :Q).

From the bit of info I've managed to gather off the net, looks like a 1600 Pro or 7300GT will be an "upgrade", albeit slight. However, direct comparisons could not be found to be sure which gives me pause. No features are nice and all, but pure performance, especially in CS:S are the true benchmark IMO for making the decision. I also would much prefer to be in the $100 range than the $150 as even the $100 is kinda blowing my budget to hell already. :D

Any personal experiences or links to direct comparisons of the cards mentioned would be greatly appreciated. Also feel free to comment/recommend on other cards in the price range.

If you have a PCI-express slot, get this X800GTO 256mb. It doesn't have Pixel Shader 3, but it is faster than a 7300GT and X1600pro, and will be a nice upgrade.

If you have an AGP slot, then save up and get this:

X800GTO AGP.

Newegg does not ship to Canada last time I checked
