how much better are the cards that are out now for around 150-200 and whats the resale value of a 8800GT?

I am gonna be gaming mostly on either 1280x1024 or 1280x720 res so i guess i dont need that powerful of a card.

I just want to know if i should sell now and upgrade before my card is worthless.........

I don't think any cards out now will give you much of an increase at those resolutions and it'll be that way for a while.

I think your better off waiting for next generation. I went from an 8800GT to a HD4850. There is a performance increase with increased AA and resolution, but I wouldn't call it a big upgrade for my resolution 1680-1050. At 1280-1024 I think it would be less so.
If you were to sell your card right now your probably looking at 75-85$ shipped on a good day depending on condition.
Your current card is still a great card for that resolution. I wouldn't worry about upgrading unless you upgrade your monitor.

I wouldn't upgrade from your card running at those resolutions. I'd wait for the next gen cards as the current ones are not really fast enough to justify an upgrade.
I'm in the same boat as you and decided to wait it out with my 8800GTS for now.

The only reason to upgrade is if your games run sluggish at your chosen resolution.

Honestly I cannot see you needing a new video card for 12x10. You can probably keep that card until you upgrade your monitor, then just buy whatever is good at that time.

By the way, the "depreciation" you're worried about has already happened. Those cards sell new for about $100 aftger rebate so used resell is probably about $75.

Keep the 8800 GT for the moment. For the resolution you're using, is more then enough.

If I were you I would by 2 4870x2's. It might be able to handle 1280x1024 :)

Sarcasm aside, your 8800gt will be fine for quite some time. It would probably even be sufficient for a 1600x1000 or whatever 22 inch lcd resolutions are.
