Hello,
I am looking to upgrade my 9800Pro to either a 6800GT or an X800Pro w/ VIVO(would be flashing it to an XT)

So i suppose my question is: How would a flashed X800Pro compare to the 6800GT? If anyone with experience with flashing their X800 could give me some input that'd be great. And i'm not just looking for Doom 3 performance, i'll be playing some older games, HL2 when its out and EverQuest 2 when it's out.

I'd stick with your 9800 Proo until the refresh tothe X800s and 6800s comes out. :p

Agreed

A 9800 pro with just the right driver settings is more then enough for now. I can say Doom3 plays nicely ay 1280x1024

I was in the same situation...decided to go with the GT. If you get the right card..you have a high chance of opening up the 4 extra pipes..but that doesnt mean your core and mem will overclock to XT PE levels. GTs have a much better chance of getting to ultra IMO

same argument; different day.

there's something to be said for the "wait and see" recommendation. frankly most of us are spoiled as there's nothing we couldn't play with our 9800pro's; we'd just be comprimising on the resolution.

as for nv40/r420, even a 12 pipe x800 is a great card. all things considered, i'd lean towards the GT, but PRO, vivo or not, certainly won't disappoint either. outpost had the GT for $350 last week; if you can get that price it's a great bargain. the ONLY game you would notice a difference in is doom3. (same qual settings but i have to run my PRO 1 res lower than my GT). the rest of the games are all close, with the "12 pipe" pro and GT trading close wins/losses, but nothing you'd notice outside of a benchmarking program.

having both, if you're really anal the PRO has a bit better AA which shows up under scrutiny in certain situations, where the same could be said in favor of the GT regarding texture filtering (tho imo nv's continually degraded their texture filtering since GF4 to where it's now as bad as ati's for the most part).
