Question Upgrade from 980 for <$500

I am running a GTX 980 paired with a 4790K and it seems the GPU is on the way out. My monitor is currently a 55" 1080p TV and will move to a 75" 4K TV in the next few months. I am playing The Outer Worlds on High settings and perfectly happy, so cutting edge displays/GPU are not neccesary for me.

I am setting a max budget of $500 for a new GPU and wanted to know if a 2070 super would be overkill for my setup?

If you have suggestions for other GPUs, AMD is out as I use Gamestream to connect to a projector.

For your budget, a 2070 Super is a significant upgrade and not overkill for your CPU. You'll need the horsepower at 4k and will be GPU limited for sure.

I agree, for $500 the 2070 Super is the obvious choice, though 4k is demanding and you may find yourself wanting more GPU power than that. Obviously it can be workable with settings tweaked / lowered, but if you do not upgrade often, you may want to consider waiting for the Geforce Ampere series and make a decision then, with either new cards or lower prices on the current lineup.
