Yes but I would like to support a 24inch monitor; though your point is taken the 460 might be adequate. Then again between now and end of Dec the 6850/6870 might drop (esp if someone offers a nice sale during blackfriday/cyber monday period. Stil the overall point is taken that if the sale is for the GTX460 I should consider that route as it is still 1.5 to 2x faster than the 8800GTS (and supports dx11) assuming it can handle 24inch without an issue.

Monitor is 20inch 1680x1050 😀 At that resolution with 4AA, an HD6850 is only 2% faster than the GTX460 768mb that costs $130-140, and an HD6870 is only 9% faster than a GTX460. Doesn't seem like $360+ videocard setup is a good "bang for the buck" for 1680x1050.

Just set a price limit for yourself and then get the fastest card that falls under this value. Honestly any card you find under $300 is a decent value in terms of price/performance. I know some will argue a few cards are better "values" than others, but the difference isn't really that big and in the end absolute performance matters just as much as value.

Yea; I guess I was mostly concern about supporting 23/24 inch monitor and if there were any real difference these days between ati/nvidia rendering. I remember a few years ago in certain games like obliion ati 1800xt blew away nvidia in certain features (dynamic lighting).

To be honest when I purchased the 8800GTS I thought it would be fine for 24inch monitor but I think it is a bit underpowered for that as well as not supporting dx11.
