Hello all,

My friend is wanting to buy my 7950gx2 from me for a so he can do quad-sli... (don't ask) Which is good because I've been looking to upgrade to a (or 2) DX 10 card(s).

I've been looking at getting a 8800 gts or the 9600 gt in sli. The 9600 gt in sli has been looking pretty good now over the 8800 gts seeing as the 9600 gt in sli is just slightly more than the 8800 gts. Plus, I was pretty impressed at how well it kept up with the 9800gx2 in the benchmark tests.

So, what I'm wondering is would I see a better performance increase by getting one 8800 gts or 2 9600 gts? OR is there a better option in the ~375 or lower price range (btw not a fan of ATi or AMD is it now)? OR should I wait and see what the 9800 GT or GTX is going to be like?

OH BTW my system specs are:
Intel C2D 2.13 OC'd to 2.8
ASUS P5NSLi
4 GB of Kingston ValueRam
2 250 WD SATA drives in RAID 0
SB X-FI XtremeGamer
Windows Vista Business x64

I think the question is what resolution are you going to be playing. If you have like a 1920x1080 LCD panel you will want the 8800GTS I think...or maybe even an old 8800GTX. If you are gaming at 1680x1050 it's more of a question of how much do you like antialiasing, what performance do you want in crysis, etc. At pretty much any resolution below that, you can run pretty much any game with a 9600GT.

I run at 1680x1050 with as much AA/AF as my pc can handle. I play CoD 4, Crysis, Obilivion, and TF 2.

If you don't mind SLI, 2x 9600gt is a good choice. Otherwise, a 512MB 8800gt or 8800gts would still be substantially faster than a 7950gx2, and can be had for about $200-250.

I highly recommend the 8800GT's. They're priced right & they perform well. You won't find any complaints on AT about these cards.

Your "friend" better make sure his power supply can handle the extra load! Also check the driver solution to see if there is one for Quad?

Thanks guys. I think I'm going to get an eEVGA 8800GT if the 9800's come out and their cooler I'll probably step-up at that point. Thanks again for the advice.
