Hi, my friend wants to upgrade the PC he bought a little over two years ago so that he can play games at higher settings/resolutions. He has a AMD 64 3000+ S939 CPU, and a 7800 GTX 256MB graphics card. He has 1 GB of memory (he bought 2GB, but we're having some trouble getting the motherboard to like it).

My question to you is, would a graphics card upgrade or a CPU upgrade make more sense? He's not looking to spend a huge amount.

Thanks for any suggestions!

He should try and snag a dualcore AMD s939 cpu on the cheap, and throw in a HD4850 or maybe a 8800gt. For either videocard upgrade a CPU upgrade is pretty much mandatory. And make sure you get that other 1GB of ram working ...

I would upgrade the system.
He could sell his current setup to a person who is not a gamer and get maybe around $200.00 for it...
Add another $200.00 and he could get himself a nice, basic system with C2D CPU and 9600GT class video card and 2 GB of RAM. I am in the process of finishing up an article about a budget box with its own dedicated video card from Newegg...Its almost ready. PLease stand by for the link, that will explain how to do it..

Edit: This is what you can get for only $360.00
