Upgrade from 4850

Hello everyone! I've been itching to upgrade my GPU for a while now, and I guess now is good a time as any. I looked around for the best value, and it seems like the 7850 for ~$200 after MIR is the top contender. Before I continue, my rig looks like this:

955 BE (stock, with a Dark Knight. I got a C2, so haven't had much luck OC'ing)
4850 512mb (usually at 700/1200, no change in voltage)
Corsair AX750

So yeah, I was pretty dead set on the 7850: =http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...82E16814127663
But then I found a 560 Ti (used) for only $115! I feel like this cheaper card is definitely the way to go. Any thoughts? =http://cincinnati.craigslist.org/sys/3073752164.html

Also, I'll be off to college in a year, so I don't think lugging around a desktop will be very practical.

Thanks for all your help!

I took my desktop to college and made good use of it.

The 7850 is a better card obviously but the 560 is better bang for your buck. Neither is the wrong choice, just depends on your budget.

I would have a hard time buying a video card from craigslist. You really don't know what condition it is in, it's not the same as buying from say the anand fs/ft where there's at least history and reputation to go with an item in most cases.

Other than that it would come down to your budget.

Yer cpu is a bottleneck. Unless you upgrade your entire platform there's no reason to go with 7850. Best upgrades for you are in the 7770/6850, $150 range.

For that system, a used GTX560 would be a perfect fit. It would be a solid 2x faster than your 4850, and no, it won't be bottlenecked in most games. The price of a new 7850 is probably too much to invest in that machine.

Being a new member, I'm not sure if you have access to the FS/FT forum here, so particpate in a few more threads and then check it out. Plenty of good deals on the 460s and 560s there.

That makes no sense, CL and FS are teh same things, except with craigslist you actually get to see the item befoer you buy it, unlike FS where all you get is a picture and the sellers word.

Just make sure the seller plugs in the video card and loads up a couple games to make sure it isn't doa.

I as someone who has sold many many gpus and pc parts on craigslist,i always allow the customer to fully test the parts up for sell,if the seller doesn't allow this, avoid purchasing such a card period.

Sorry to threadcrap but,

In general, what's the best "bang for the buck" video card today?

I've got a son with an i3 machine using an old 5750 (actually it's the card in my sig.....I need to update that as I now have a 6850) and he's complaining. His budget is probably around $100...maybe $130.

Thanks!

All right, thank you for the tip. I'll definitely keep that in mind.

6850 is still your best choice in that price range. Best price is $120AR: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102908
