Upgrade from 3500+ to 4600+ worth it?

Hey,

Currently have a Athlon 64 3500+ wanting to upgrade CPU to Athlon 64 X2 4600+, anyone know if this will give a decent increase in performance for gaming?

System Specs:

24" LCD @1920X1200 (same res for gaming)
6800 Ultra (overclocked)
Asus A8V deluxe Motherboard
OCZ 1GB DDR (2X 512) Dual Channel

- some games i play.

HL2: Ep1
Fear
CS:S
Oblivion
Condemned
Prey

I will probs be building a complete high-end new system when directx10 comes around but for now i wanna know will i benefit from the dual core 4600+ ?

Thanks.

If you multitask a lot, sure! Even if you don't multitask, I'd say its worth it. But first... how high is your 3500+ clocked?

well my 3500+ runs stock atm @ 2.2ghz, but i can run it OC @ 2.4 ok... but i don't like to OC as i don't have working pci/agp locks on this mobo.

For future games, it will be needed. It isn't needed right now, but like biostud said, it doesn't really hurt to have it, although you aren't going to be getting any better performance at all with any game that isn't multithreaded (dual-core enabled).

edit: Oops, yeah, you'll get slightly better performance, since the 4600 is 2.4 Ghz x2. For some reason, I was thinking you had said a 4200.
