Upgrade from 2600@3200 xp to A64? And 754 vs 939

Ok, so I haven't had a serious upgrade in a while I just got a 6600gt AGP but could sell that and get a PCI-E one if I really wanted to. What im trying to figure out is if it would be worth it for me to upgrade from my current processor to say a 754 3400 (which I would OC) or a 3000 or 3200 Winchester (also would be OCed). This is a gaming rig so keep that in mind, basically Im just wondering what the increase would be like and which way to go, cost is definately a factor and I was leaning towards 754 because of that.

Any help would be appreciated guys 🙂

I would go with a s939 setup, you can get them almost as cheap as a S754.

Get a A64 3000+ Winchester - Retail version w/hsf can be had for about $155 to $165
Get an Abit AV8 mob S939 - Can be bought for about $100 to $110

The Winchester 3000+ is a graet overclocking chip, you can easily get it from its stock 1.8Ghz speed to 2.4-2.5G on air with the stock retail hsf. This gives you 3800+ to 4000+ performance without having to pay $600-$750 for the proceesor like a 4000+ would cost you. Some people have actually overclocked them to 2.7Ghz on air, but that is pushing it, 2.4 to 2.5Ghz is definetely doable.

My winchester 3200+ is @2601mhz rock solid. It is wickedly fast and eats benchmarks for lunch
Spend the extra few bucks, and swap your video card you will not be sorry
