upgrade form ME to XP

A friend of mine upgraded his ME machine to XP. He forgot to ununstall his corporate version of norton anti virus software for win me b4 he did the upgrade. Now he cant load the xp version and he cant uninstall the me version of norton with the software install/ un-install. and of course the me version doesnt run either. How can he get rid of the norton me version so he can load the xp version??

There should be instructions on our site for manually removing the 98 version from the registry. Short version basically, rename the directory it's installed into, and look thru the registry and rename the associated Symantec and Norton keys (you can go back thru and nuke them after you verify the new install is working). For the longer version, check the support site their will be a KB article on what to do.

Why not just format the drive and re-install WinXP? Seems there may be some other problems cropping up if anything else is left over from ME.
