and then there is always the possibility of just biting the bullet this year....
wow, that's a big step up from just a gpu/ram upgrade.
I would definitely wait until black friday if possible. I got an 80gb x25 m mainstream, i7 920, 3x2 gb ddr 1600 ram, aftermarket hsf, win 7 x64 home premium, new cd drive, basically everything that you listed other than the case for ~ $750 AR and bing cb (10% for newegg at that time). specific prices that I just looked up:
80gb x25 m mainstream $214.99
i7 920 $279
3 antec 900 case fans $30
asus p6t (open box) $177
3x2 gb ocz ddr3 1600 $120 AR
shipping as ~ $9 total for all of it. I was looking at the next step down asus mobo and rolled the dice on the p6t open box but the rest of that was pretty typical performance items. I gave my old system to my daughter but had a spare antec 900 lying around (don't ask) and I kept my gtx 260. The only other items I bought were a $50 aftermarket cpu cooler and a $59.99 wd6400aaks as a storage drive, so I was basically out about $860 after bing. If you take out the $300 for the 5850 and $100 for the case you're still looking at a potential $350 savings or so if you can hang on until BF 2010. Oh, also you can probably get a comparable mid/high 5850/gtx 470/5860/gtx 475/6xxx card for significantly less than $300 on bf, and I saw several sites with antec 900's for ~ $60 shipped around BF.
sorry, I just looked at that post and it looks like I'm trashing your build. I'm absolutely not trying to do that, I just know that in the past I have just bought a computer whenever the urge hit me. I had many many people here counsel me to wait for BF and I'm very glad that I did.
edit: whoops, missed the psu. I also kept my hx 620 from my other build, I passed down an older hx 520 to chloe's new computer. sucker...she'll never miss that 100w, right?
