Upgrade for Mythtv box? Opteron 144 or 64 3200+?

I have a mythtv box that I just replaced the A7N8X deluxe / 2700+ with a Gigabyte GN-K8NSC socket 939 board. I have at my disposal a 3000, 3200, and an opty 144.

My impression is that performance wise, the opteron is a better "performer" than the other 2 chips, (and what I've currently installed), but that doesn't have any basis in any facts, which is why I am asking for some input from this community.

Thanks.

3200 would prolly beat 144 if not overclocked, because 3200+ runs @ 2ghz and 144 is 1.8. But since you have at your disposal all of those chips, u can just compare with benchmarking utilities like 3dmark/pcmark or whatever..

Opty 144 should have 1mb cache.

For some CPU intensive games, 3200 may be better at stock, but for everything else opty should be better and maybe better for everything as well.

If you get a good oc with the opty, keep it.

I don't know what MythTV boxes are supposed to do, exactly, but I think the Opteron's 1 MB cache and overclockability will prove superior to the 3200+'s standard 200 MHz clock advantage.

3200 for a htpc will be fine, only go with the 144 if you want to get a nice o/c
