I'd say Geforce FX but it doesn't support DX9

for a nvidia that's noticeably faster than your ti4200 you'll need a fx 5700 ultra at $179+ or 5900 non-ultra at $199+. Stay away from the 5600 Ultra it's not enough of a speed boost to justify the price.Originally posted by: Caly
9800 for $200 sounds pretty decent. I'll look into the Nvidia ones, thanks.
Bingo. Except in heavy AA/AF situations, current midrange cards don't even approach 2x the Ti4200's performance in most situations.Originally posted by: thorin
Save your money. There shouldn't be much out yet that you can't play on your 4200. You be much much better off getting a gen 2 DX9 part in '04.

Eh, I'd go the other way around; if you buy something, get a mid-range card. While they offer less performance than a high-end card, unless you can get a high end card for cheap($200 5900's, etc), you're effectively cheating yourself, since new high-end cards will be out before any DX9 games are.Originally posted by: jjyiz28
dont buy a midrange card, a la 9500, 9600, 5700, blah blah, its not that great increase from a 4200. from a 4200, get high end or just wait it out.

How about 179 dollars for a Geforce 5700 Ultra? It's fast, very overclockable, and inexpensive.

Agreed. If you can find one, a 9500 Pro is good too but getting really tough to find.
9600XT is good too.

Because when using AA/AF, the performance boost is at least 2x in most cases, if not more. Otherwise you're right, waiting is the other good(if perhaps not best) choice.Originally posted by: Mak0602

why buy another mid-range card? He's already got one! The geforce 4 ti4200 is really the mid-range value card right now. I suggest you just save some money and go hardcore later next year.
