Who here is gonna upgrade their computer for Doom3? Who already has? Are you upgrading everything or just parts?

I for one, plan on upgrading everything for Quakecon 2004. I refuse to take the same system 3 years in a row...

My current upgrade plans:
AMD Athlon 3500+
MSI K8N Neo2 nForce3 Ultra
OCZ Enhanced Latency Platinum Edition 1GB 512MBx2 DDR PC-3200
eVGA nVidia GeForce 6800GT*
Western Digital Raptor 74GB*
Antec True550*
all in a
Lian-Li "PC-V1100B" *
*=already ordered

plus my other hdd's (2x250gb sata)... yeah that's about it. i think i'm leaving everything else in my old computer.
I just hope this motherboard is out before QCon... I don't know what I'm gonna do if it isn't.

Looks like you done your research here on the site. The only thing I don't like is the over priced case.

Built a whole new system a couple months ago.
It wasn't for D3, but now I just ordered a BFG 6800GT OC to replace to budget 5900XT.
So yeah, you can say that D3 just made me spend $400.

Just ordered a new power supply to future proof my system. After the first or second doom 3 patch, I ffigure the price of a 6800GT or Ultra will be down ...then I'll buy it. Started modding my case for additional cooling as well

I don't plan on buying it.
I might download it, see if it's any good, but I don't have any great interest in the game.
(If I download it, they won't lose any money, because I'm not gonna buy it anyway - I might even be persuaded to buy it based on what I experience, but probably not, HL2 OTOH, I will almost certainly buy)

Never really had much interest in iD games.

sweet! keep em coming!

i've also decided that i'll wait till the last week of july, and if the msi k8n neo2 isn't out yet, that i'll just get something else. quakecon starts the second week of aug, and i've gotta have time to get everything delivered and assembled. so if its not out at that time, what should i get instead?

think i may jus wait for the demo rather than buy the game an then be disapointed........id rather waste an hour or so downloading the demo, but not on wasting a trip to town and back and wasting 40 quid on game that i can only hope will work nice for me

having said that this is my rig

P4 2.4
768mb PC800 RDRAM
Gigabyte mobo
Radeon 9500pro....at 325/303

i did see some early D3 benches (on that Hard OCP site which has gone waydown in my book) where the 9500pro played around 30-40 fps at 1024x768 which is fine for me coz my monitor is limted to 1280x1024 at 60hz and i hate 60hz.....so 1024x768 at 85hz is better for me

Doom 3 has been in production so long I bet everyones system can run it. I highly doubt it will require a super-duper system no matter what the programmers say. They are just BSing us into believing it needs a lot of horsepower. Same with HL2.

Upgraded from 512mB of RAM to 1024. OC'ed my 2500+ to 3200+. I've got a eVGA GeForce 6800GT in the mail to replace my 9800np.

I am absolutely psyched about Doom III and Half Life II. Nothing has flared my interest in PC gaming like this since Half Life.

I'm about to have a similar setup zodder, but I have the 9800 AIW Pro, do you or anyone else see a reason for me to upgrade?

Not at the moment. Your card is fine and should play anything you throw at it fine. I generally wait 1-1/2 years to upgrade my vid card and thats only if there has been a drastic improvment in the technology. I currently have an ATI 9800 Pro that runs all the latest games beautifully but am planning to upgrade as soon as PCI E becomes a standard and has stablized. I dont see that happening until at least a year so the 9800 Pro will be with me for about another year making it, at the time of my next upgrade, 1 and a half years with the 9800 Pro. Previous to that I had a 9500 Pro with ran great and I had it for only nine months but that was because I got a great deal on the 9800 pro.
