Upgrade for Battlefield 2

Pls consider my specs and that the upcomming Batthefield 2 which I seriously believe WILL DO use of more than 1Gb of memory.

Also CAS 2 mem is disconsidered here due to abusive pricing and I wont OC memory.

I would honestly think 1GB will be enough, the new engine is heavily optimised and shouldnt be any worse than the BF:V engine, and now with map scaling and other features the memory footprint should actually be significantly down for anything but 50+ player games online.

When you reach 64 players, the memory footprint will likely be the same 850-950MB battlefield vietnam had (if youre hosting the game, if not take off about 150MB of overhead).

The physics ragdoll engine, the increased texture detail, and increase in geometry will actually hit the CPU and GPU much harder than the memory footprint.

Edit: My reccomendation would be get 1GB of CAS3 now, and get another 512MB if BF2 will actually use it.

well if u have a athlon 64, then go cas3 since A64 doesnt much care for latencies, though i suspect that the AXP you have wont see that much of decrease with cas 3, can never have to mcuh ram

Best upgrade would be selling your Athlon XP and getting an A64 setup. 🙂

Cant beat an A64 for gaming.

Couldn't be anymore true.

another vote for A64.

is this true?!!??! 850MB for BFV?!
i swear, EA makes some of the crappiest, un-optimized game engines the world has ever seen.
Sims 2
BF
BFV
MOH😛A
NFS:UG2 (not as much so as the ones listed above)

Hosting the game as in, you are the game server, not a client on the server.

who hosts an internet server off of their gaming computer unless you have a backbone internet connection

Voted 1gb, but after reading that BF2(assuming it's accurate) will use more than 1gb, I'd go 1.5gb. It won't be long before >1gb will be useful in more games anyway, might as well be ahead of the game.
