Any suggestions on a card upgrade for this? PCIE interface, would like something that will offload the 264 decode from CPU.

Oh and gaming is a must as well, but keep in mind the x800 handles COD4 and UT3 well.

Cost is a factor too, don't have a target but would like to see what models would be a nice upgrade..

Am I asking for too much?

Thanks!

any card released in the past 2 years...

a $99 3870 from newegg sounds like your cheap-but-good for built in hd decoding...

other factors to consider are processor and resolution, you very well may not need anything more than a $100 3870 even if you can afford something much more

depends on what the rest of your system specs are. people cant really give good recommendations w/o knowing the rest of your system.

If you dont mind overclocking that cpu to 2.6-2.7ghz, then 4850 for $150 is a nice card. It'll probably be your last upgrade until Nehalem so the extra $50 seems worthwhile.

8800GS ($88AR)
HD3870 ($100AR)
8800GT ($134AR)

Any of these cards will be a nice gaming upgrade and can offload decoding from the cpu.

If you're looking at this for an HTPC type application, go for the 8800GS because its nearly silent (I have two in folding boxes and can't even hear them with the case sides off).

Alright, then 4850 would be a decent match. Although 9600GT/3870 for $100 and 8800GT for $120 are great values, I'd spend $40-50 extra for 4850. You'll get FREE AA :)
