My brick-and-mortar reseller is going on holidays for a few days but we should install the Phenom II X4 955BE, M4A79-T DeLuxe and 8GB of DDR3, along with the Vista Ultimate SP1 disc, on Thusday, just after Canada Day. 🙂

Gives me a few days to back up files and wipe the hard disk where the OS will be clean installed.

I'm also gonna be eligible for a free Windows 7 Upgrade he said.🙂

Then I'll start saving again for my next upgrade three years from now.

Why Vista? Just download Win7RC and use that for a year for free. Then upgrade to Win7 SP1 once the trial period expires.

And yeah - that should be a smokin' system. Reusing your 4870 or springing for something faster?

No need to use a non-final OS if he gets Vista now, though (but that's probably a moot point; the 7 RC seems to be quite stable). The one big upside I can see to buying Vista now would be that he gets another OS license to hold onto (or do you have to give up the Vista license if you opt for the free upgrade?) as opposed to the RC which won't be usable. Or he could buy Vista but just use the 7 RC, I suppose.
