So I've looked at the 290X reviews and they seem pretty decent. I'm considering if it would be an upgrade from my Saphire 7970ghz. I mainly play at 1920x1080 and usually max everything out. Haven't had any issues with my current card. Anyone else going to be biting on the 290 or 290x? I know as of now there aren't any reference models.

Or should I just wait and upgrade my other parts?

I'm thinking the same thing, but I figure I can add a second 7970 for ~$200 soon enough, which will extend the life of my rig for some time to come - assuming AMD & CF make friends. I haven't looked too closely at the reviews yet, but I figure that on games that take CF, a second 7970 will beat out a single 290X most of the time.

I prefer a single card over crossfire, I could afford another 7970 right now but I don't want to run into any crossfire issues. I'm pretty sure the 290's will be louder than what I have now. Some say my card is pretty loud but it doesn't bother me, it doesn't make that much noticeable noise.

Yeah - I'm a bit skeptical of the CF issues. Not that they don't exist, but that I won't run into these problems. Somehow I think I'm different from everyone else. I'm sure I will though. Seems inevitable.

Noise isn't an issue for me either - I use headphones when I game anyway. My computer has 5 or 6 fans and a stock CPU cooler. Headphones that I already own seem so much easier than making a silent computer.

Yeah, 4GB Vram is the norm for R9 290X. 280X is 3GB, but not sure on the 290. Looks like 4gb as well for the 290 but I haven't seen an official spec sheet yet. Just what's listed on Newegg, etc.

I think on reference coolers they're all pretty much the same.... the one you linked is a BF4 bundle though. Looks like the non-BF4 bundle ones will start $549 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...on%20R9%20290X

It's your money to do with what you will of course, but I would just wait for 20nm and not get sucked into the hype of another new video card just yet.

Those will probably be out spring of 2014? I know my current card will last me the way I play, for a while so who knows. I think it is best to wait and see more results. I'm not sure what a difference I would see considering I don't go higher than 1920x1080.
