Upgrade dilemma

So I've got about 700 or so to spend on this...good ol tax returns. My specs are in the sig. I've currently got a compaq mv940 19' crt, which is starting to crap out on me. I obviously don't want anything smaller then I have right now. I'd like to get at least a 19 inch lcd but I'm wondering if my vid card will be enough to have any sort of good fps @ 1280x1024 or 1600x1200, I just did a valve stress test and heres the results:

1024x768 no aax8af: 115fps
1600x1200 no aax8af: 59fps

So if this is the case would I be better to get a lower priced 19 inch lcd and upgrade to a 6800gt or ultra? Or should I just not bother with a vid. card upgrade and get a nice big expensive monitor?

Suggestions are appreciated.

If you've got that much to spend on a monitor, I'd say go for the ViewSonic VP912B. 12ms response time should give you up to 83FPS before you see ghosting, DVI input, 3 year warranty. Going for $539 on NewEgg, but they show to be currently out of stock, probably since they just started free shipping on it, or maybe just because it's highly regarded. Lots of positive reviews on it.

I can't give you a personal opinion - I'm looking for an LCD around $400 or less. If I was in your position, though, I would have ordered this one already.

Well you are asking what you should spend it on and your specs are in your sig... but as far as I see, you have no sig-line with specs!?!?!

You might want to actually have a sig line so we can give you some advice.

BTW, didn't see your video card in your sig, or I'd offer an opinion on how to spread your $700. I'm tempted to change my thinking from 19" to a 17" lcd so I can squeeze in a new 6600GT card. Currently running a 9600PRO which does pretty well but you know how it goes with the upgrade bug.

Sorry about the sig, I updated it.

Heres the scenarios I've been thinking about, still not sure though.

1. Pick up a Dell 2005fpw and call it a day and HOPE fps is allright at it's native resolution

2. OR...get a x800xt and a lower price 19 inch monitor and know for sure the vid. card can handle it.

3. Other scenario I haven't schemed up yet.

an 800xt isnt worth it from a 6800vanilla. right now you are using a CRT, why not just get something like a 22inch CRT? are you limited for space?

Well, if I'm going to get another crt then I'd want a bigger one obviously. Not very often I get a new monitor, the problem is I am limited in space when you talk about crts and anything bigger then the 19inch I have now.

With those specs, you certainly do NOT need a new video card!?!?!

With a BFG 6800 OC, there is no need to upgrade at LEAST until the GeForce7 arrives!

Take the whole wad and get the nicest 19" LCD you can find... there are plenty of threads around here on which ones are nice, but get a 12ms or 8ms 19" LCD with DVI inputs.

Forget about upgrading the video card until NVidia releases the GeForce7 or higher.

Maybe get a monitor and do some other nice updates... I recently bought a 19" LCD and got a new case, keyboard, etc, to go from beige to black and have a better looking system.
