hey i currently have a s939 x2 3800 processor at 2.7ghz @1.45v, i hear alot of people getting their opteron 165 to 3ghz, what i wanted to know is if it is wise to upgrade to a 165? or should i just stick with this x2 3800 ?

Because of the motherboard you have, you won't get anywhere near 3 Ghz with a 9x multiplier, like the Opty 165 has. Assuming you're a gamer, you'd get much more performance from a faster PCI-E video card, and keep your 2.7 Ghz 3800.

not that i am disagreeing with you but why do you say that i wont get to 3ghz with this mother board?

i will get a new video card its something that i will definately do soon, but i am going to wait for ati's response to the 8800 series of cards.

If I can jump in;

The Asrock Dual SATA I bought was not a good high FSB overclocker. If you had a high multiplier on the CPU the FSB limits would not affect your overclock.

True that, the problem you hit is the ammount of voltage you gan give to your cpu, unless you happen to come across an opty 165 that can do 3ghz with only 1.4v. Though i personaly havent seen any quite as good as that, though im fairly confident mine clould breach 3 if i got a decent mobo with a few more voltage options.

In that case if you do decide to go for an opty, make sure you get a steping that is known to be good. But as others have said the money would be better spent on a graphics card.
