im looking to get some better performance on games like arma, a10c warthog etc.. now ive been looking at getting a 2500k or 2600k but at that setup price i could just replace my 5770 and pick up a 6970, what should i do?
I'm not familiar with those games or how they perform so I won't be of much help. Before others ask, is your Phenom II 955 overclocked? What resolution do you game at?
Stock clock, 1920x1200. Bf3 I can't play on that resolution unless its on low settings. So it really depends on the game with which res I use.. But when it comes to arma I've tried every setting the first benchmark chances all the time. But with the second benchmark no matter what the resolution settings are on (normal) the fps doesn't change unless I I lower the view distance. I'll only gain maybe 3 frames at the most but that's not enough
I've over clocked it to 3.6 with a stock fan but it sits at 61c sometimes 1.35v. When i get some cash im going to pick up a 212 asap but I still need better ram for the ht overclock
Buy an aftermarket cooler, OC the 955 and boost the cpu-nb to 2.4/2.6, and get a 6950. This is probably your biggest bang for your buck and will provide more overall benefit than using a 2500 with a 5770.

What kind of frame rate increase would I get with this upgrade.. Arma mainly. One server I get 30 fps but that's with at least 15-20 people on it. But when there's only a few 45-60 depending on location.
The 5770 is branded a dx 11 card but its reallly junk. It doesnt have the processing power for dx 11 Amd knew that and thats why they didnt bother with the bandwidth on it. All they had to do was to get the dx 11 tag on it is to give it a 32k shared cache.
