There are probably about 50 processors for you to choose from. Why don't you give us some more information? What do you want to do? Is your video card the older model or the new (512mb) one? Are you overclocked?

Gaming / cpu intensive chess program "Rybka3"

Video card is the BFG 8800GTS (640mb)

Not overclocked...MB's bios is "rev 1.03G" ? ( purchased 4/9/2007 )

Upgrade video card? Did you read which one I have? I thought it was still nearly as quick as anything out there....

That vid card is roughly equivalent to or slower than a $70 9600GT. You'll get a HUGE increase in framerates with a $275 GTX 260 or 4870. Y

G80-based GTS has been superseded for the last year now.

edit: Handy chart..the 8800GTS that you own is shown on the right, the 512mb model in the middle, and the new 260 on the left:

I replaced an E6400 that was running at 3.4Ghz for a year and a half with E0 E8400. I had to use the beta 1237 bios so that 4Gb ram can be used with the new processor. It may be old but it's a very stable board even at high fsb. I am running the E8400 at 4.2Ghz and that's only because my ram doesn't like running at 4 4 4 15 past 467Mhz fsb. I have the same video card like you do and will probably get a 4870 1Gb for 1900x1200 resolution. FYI, don't use Asus Update for bios flashing, go into the bios and use EZ-flash.

i stick with 803 on my p5q deluxe simply because it offers the best OCing for my q9450. the newest (possibly still in beta) bios is pretty good too.

i would definitely overclock the hell out of your e6600 (3.4Ghz looks attainable). if not, an e8400/e500 paired with a nice cooler would probably get you to 4.0Ghz.

Based on Emo's post, I flashed my old Bios to "1237" today thru "EZFlash2" w/ my thumb drive. It was so easy...and I was soo worried based on the horror stories I heard online w/ failed Bios updates on this MB.

I have on order an E8400 (I can't choose the "stepping" CO or EO), the Xigmatek S1283 HSF w/brackett, and Artic Silver. So, next week will have to take the MB out, put HSF on w/ new cpu...never did this before...I am very concerned I'll mess it up... And then OC the thing...

So guys, could you give me the steps to OC this specific MB/cpu/memory combination?

Thx...

Brian
