Hello everyone,

I have an eMachines T3256 PC computer; pretty decent for what it is and how much I paid for it. I recently upgraded the RAM and video card...to 1GB of RAM and an ATI Radeon X850 PRO 256MB AGP card.

The card overall is really good (even though I can't Biomod the card to 16 pipes) and most of the games I play are simply beautiful (COD 2, Doom 3 and FSW to name a few). The thing is, one of the games I play most of the time is Anarchy Online. For some reason, the game crashes like crazy with ATI cards (not just for me, tons of AO gamers that use ATI cards have the same problem). I know most gamers here probably wouldn't exchange a good card because of one game...but I'm thinking of switching to the Nvidia brand.

I don't have much money to spend (got this ATI card for only $229.99 at CompUSA) and I thinking about exchanging the card for a Nvidia 6800.

I know the ATI Radeon X850 PRO is better than the Nvidia 6800 "regular" video card (not by much though) and I'm wondering if it is a good choice? I have about $300 dollars to spend (just sold my PS2...didn't use it all) when I exchange the ATI Radeon X850 PRO...I know the common reply will be to get the Nvidia 6800 GT or even better...Nvidia 6800 Ultra, but I don't have that kind of cash and I don't have PCIe either...any suggestions?

I can get an eVGA Geforce 6800 card for $169.99 ($299.99 before rebates) and from what I'm reading, I can unlock the last four pipes easily (unless the card is too lasercut). I will also be able to play my favorite game, Anarchy Online (AO seems to favor Nvidia cards).

My secondary questions are...Will I be able to handle Doom 3, COD 2 and other graphical intense games equally to an ATI Radeon X850 PRO card? If not, how far below will the "power" of the card be of the ATI Radeon X850 PRO card?

Thank you for your help in advance,

Frankie aka RaGeSet
P.S. I plan to exchange the card today (1/27/06) if possible. I also want to play F.E.A.R. and UT2K4 soon...

The Nvidia Geforce 6800 GS (AGP) would be the perfect card until I save up enough money for a new computer that has PCIe support and etc. Too bad NONE of the computer retailers near me have this card...I'm talking about large (CompUSA, BestBuy) or small (PCW Computer)...which is crazy. So my only bet is getting the card from newegg.com and I'm not sure Circuit City will give me a refund (my back, I got the card from CC...not CompUSA)...it has been over 14 days. So I'm stuck with a card I don't want. (Purchased the card on the 9th of Jan)

Don't know if you're interested, but there's also a 7800 GS AGP coming out soon. I'm gonna check out CompUSA today.

I bought an X850 Pro from Circuit City. The return time for video cards IS without a doubt, 30 days. I know this because I returned it 27 days after I bought it. There was no problem at all.

The good news is...I got a refund with no questions asked. The bad news is the wait time to get my Nvidia 6800 GS (one to two weeks) since I'm paying via secure money order. A funny fact is that Connecticut is the richest (wealthiest) state in America, yet our major retailers or even the small [PC equipment shops] don't carry high-end video cards which would suit this state's (rich) demographic perfectly. I guess this state is all about the common sighted sports cars and million dollar mansions and super high fuel prices...who would have thought...blah.
