upgrade advise

Hello:

I have AMD Athlon 3000+ with ASUS K8S-MX mobo, 1 GB RAM
I wish to now upgrade and need advise regarding following option.

AMD 3800+ or Intel Core2 Duo E6600 (its cheaper than E6700)

Please suggest.

Also please suggest which mobo is best for the recommended processor.

I'd go with a E6600 with any decent P35 mb. If you OC you can pick up a E6420 and OC that one up to 3.2+. m.b. is the same P35. As for AMD X2s I think if you on budget you can do this combo: Tforce 550+X2 3600+ brisbane and that will OC to like 2.7+ to even 3.0+ easily. Get a after marcket HSF for all these setups though, keep your processor cool. For the AMD X2 option I think it's like 120 bucks for the whole thing so extremely cost effective. The C2Ds will probably run pass 200 for mb+cpu.

Also for the RAM get 2GB DDR2s, they pretty cheap now.
