Upgrade advice

I am looking for some upgrade advice, my system struggles a little with COD4. I currently have a 7950GT 256MB video card, Pentium D 830 CPU, 2 GB PC6400 RAM. To keep within my budget($300-400), I am thinking of upgrading to a 8800GT 256MB and a E4600 CPU. Would this be enough to smooth out the graphics on COD4? Thanks for any advice.

amabee,

Welcome to the forums...

I checked the following Tom's site: http://www23.tomshardware.com/...&model2=1057&chart=308 to see what the difference would be between the 7950GT and the 8800GT, but their selections are with 512 memory, not 256. In any case, the frame rates for the 8800GT look to be much higher than the 7950GT, so that would suggest a good improvement for you. For COD4? Don't know, but probably much better. The E4600 is a pretty decent CPU from everything that I've read about it, and over-clocks well, too.

If your mobo supports those components, I'd say go for it, you'll probably be happy with the outcome.
