Upgrade advice - video and mobo/cpu

Time to upgrade the old computer while I can still sell the current parts to offset cost. 🙂
This system is used for everything from gaming to (hobby) animation to some pretty major programming & compiling, under Win2k & Linux.

I was wondering. How great of performance gains are there really, going from a GeForce256 DDR (Asus V6800)
to a GeForce3 card? Worth the money? I haven't been able to find direct comparisons anywhere, unsurprisingly.

Other than that, I've been debating whether to go with a 1.4Ghz Tbird + Abit KG7 ($275) or a 1.2Ghz MP + Tyan Tiger. ($410)

[Speculation]
While the option to drop in another processor is very enticing, the cost differential isn't.
SSE would be nice, but I'm guessing the extra 200Mhz of the 1.4 chip would make up for it.
If you're wondering about the prices, I'd be buying everything retail. Most other components I'd buy OEM, but
not the most important stuff.

Thanks -

This is my first time posting here, but I have buit quite a few systems in my time. Personally I would go with the dual proc. setup. Since you will be doing a lot of programming and compiling, you will notice a dramatic decrease in compile times with a second proc. I must say I really like the GeForce3, but if you don't play the newest games and don't care about super high frame rates, the GeForce256 DDR will work just fine.
